What Goes into the Making of a Perfect Picture?

Certainly lighting, wardrobe, hair and make-up play an integral role, but perhaps the most important part is the photographer’s ability to spot that flawless shot and capture it within a split second.
Erich Saide is the B.C. photographer who won Vervegirl’s cover shoot contest. He shot Fresh Face winner Deidre Olsen at his studio in Vancouver and scored the hot cover photo from our May/June issue!
Influenced by the ethereal images of celebrity photographer David LaChappelle, this Vancouverite says he cannot live without the sun, surf, and girls. A graduate of the Langara College Continuing Ed Photography program, he assisted pro photographers, such as Waldy Martens and Barry Gnyp, to learn the ins and outs of the industry. Now on his own and feeling too restricted in the confines of a studio, Erich prefers to shoot on location where the best shot is usually unexpected and spontaneous. To keep his crew motivated and energized on set, he cranks some Canadian rock’n’roll by State of Shock (check out photos of the band on Erich’s website), so everyone stays keyed up while he snaps away with his digital. Success and a sweet career don’t magically happen overnight though, “It takes a lot of networking and photo equipment can be very expensive,” says Erich. You have to stick with it and never give up, “Nothing in life comes easy and you have to work hard to get there!”
