Social Meets Style with the HTC Status

Social Meets Style with the HTC StatusBy Giselle San Miguel

When setting up your phone and you add all your accounts such as your Hotmail, Gmail, Facebook and Twitter, ALL information will be set in your contact list! BE SURE you are aware that you want to sync all that sensitive information on your phone.

TIP: If you have created lists in Facebook, all your contacts will be grouped together in the same way on your HTC Status.

The first thing that I always do with any new electronic device has to be changing the wallpaper and theme. I love to share a lot of things online so I set the theme to Social as well as changing the shortcuts right on the home screen adding the app shortcuts that I use the most.

Very clear and not one dropped call while using it. Signal strength was always full except going through a tunnel and obviously the subway.

Battery life was pretty strong and it lasted me for 30+ hours using the following:

  • Heavy Twitter Use
  • Heavy Internet (Browser) Use
  • Heavy Camera Use
  • Medium Music Use
  • Light Email Use
  • Light Phone Calls
  • Light SMS Use
  • Medium Bright Screen

By pressing the Facebook button right on the phone, you’ll be directed straight to your status field where you can share a photo, website link or even check-in to places. This is perfect for any social butterfly who consistently uses Facebook to share anything and everything.

This little widget is soooo handy! You can see every little update from all your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, and even Flickr updates so you will know instantly what’s going on.

I find it easy to hold in my hands especially when texting. The keyboard is intuitive and features words as you type so you can tap it instead of writing the whole word. It felt light in my hands and not terribly bulky. The light that blinked every single time was a tad annoying, so I found it in the settings and turned it off.

The sound quality is crystal clear and I was happy to find the radio app which I happily tuned into. I was also surprised to find a couple of songs already set on the phone which was played on repeat for several days.

Pages loaded fairly quickly while on the go, especially if a site was already mobile friendly. Tapping and holding on any image or body of text will pop up a menu “Copy”, “Paste”, and “Select All”. That’s definitely useful for bloggers and I used that quite a lot when posting to Tumblr or Twitter.

Social Meets Style with the HTC StatusThe 5 mega-pixel camera took decent photos and sharing them was even easier. Within any app you download via the Market there’s an option to SHARE. While I was at the Clinique Ambassador for Change Contest with Celebrity Judge Shawn Desman I took this photo of Shawn and uploaded via the Facebook button. Easy peasy! Recording video was just as easy and I love that you can also set it to HQ (High Quality) video at 720×480 pixels.

  • Music – There were eight songs from various artists that were pre-programmed into the phone and I must say that I quite enjoyed the playlist.
  • Mirror app – I thought that was neat that they had such a thing only because people don’t know that they can use their own camera as a mirror.
  • Calendar – When I synced my Facebook account I noticed all my friend’s birthdays were included right on the calendar. Now I wonder if it notifies me?

  • So easy to sync all your accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, and even my own email accounts like Hotmail and Gmail.
  • Sharing anything to Facebook was a breeze. The share button was in every little app, so if you’re a social sharing whiz (like me) then you’ll definitely love this phone.
  • The QWERTY keyboard was very handy and I love the touch screen as well.

  • Software lags a bit but that’s probably because I have a ton of apps running in the background including the GPS.
  • I’m not a fan of the click it makes every time I pressed a button just because I find the noise irritating but I’m guessing you can change that somewhere in the settings.
