Olympic Spotlight: Priscilla Lopes-Schliep

Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, 25, from Whitby, Ont., knows how to make us stand up and take notice. At first, with so many amazing stories about athletic performances coming out of Beijing, nobody was really paying attention when this stealthy contender qualified for the finals in the 100-metre hurtles. But then, when the news made its way over here, millions of us started to tune in and cheer.

Priscilla, though, never let herself have any doubt. “You’ve got to go out there thinking and believing you can do it,” she said, after qualifying for the finals.  And then a few days later, she did it again, stepping onto the podium to accept her first Olympic medal.
