Much Ado About Prom

Much Ado About Prom

Hannah’s Hot Tunes

SCHOOL’S OUT
BY ALICE COOPER
A prom CLASSIC! Turn it on and turn it up. Make sure you are all singing along at the top of your lungs when the line comes: “SCHOOOOOOOL’S OUT FOR-EVAH!”

CRAZY IN LOVE BY BEYONCÉ
I don’t care who you are, when this song starts your body moves! You always need a great happy dance song to get everyone on the floor. Beyoncé always gets the party started.

END OF THE ROAD BY BOYZ II MEN
The ultimate Prom slow dance song. Make sure there is a clear foot of distance between you and your dance partner and try to be as awkward as possible.

DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT BY SNOOP DOGG
Go find that dance partner, the one you had the awkward slow dance with, and dance with them again to this song. Betcha it works out
a little better this time.

SUNSHOWERS BY M.I.A
End the night with a big dance tune. This song will make you smile and bop around. Finally you are finished high school! CELEBRATE!

HONOURABLE MENTIONS
If you want the floor to get C.R.A.Z.Y, release all that pent-up energy and play Jump Around by House of Pain. Never fails and lets dancers and non-dancers alike let loose! The old standard (Good Riddance) Time of Your Life by Green Day. It plays at every Prom and always prompts a few tears.

Matte Babel’s MAKE–YOUR–MOVE Music

SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT BY NIRVANA
Hey, you gotta have a classic. So you might as well choose one that everyone knows.

CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA BY OASIS
Another sing-along classic.

THE RAIN BY K-OS
Everyone has loved and lost in high school.

JUST LIKE MUSIC BY ERICK SERMON
And this is for those who don’t dance. It’s very hard to resist Marvin Gaye and Eric Sermon.

THIS IS WHY I’M HOT BY MIMS
Let ’em know ladies!

VJ Leah’s Fashion DOs

1.
Wear comfortable shoes—since you’ll be wearing them and dancing in them all night. Also make sure they’re not too high. You don’t want to trip and fall in front of tons of people. Been there, done that!

2. Bring a little clutch purse and fill it with mints, lipgloss and a disposable camera (you don’t want to lose your expensive digital one).

3. Skip the Prom date pressure and go with a group of friends. You’ll have more fun, but just make sure you’re not wearing the same dress.

4. Don’t use too many hair products—you don’t want to look greasy. It’s all about Gwyneth Paltrow’s Oscar look. Her hair was natural and smooth. It looked great!

VJ Leah’s Prom Don’ts

1.
Don’t spend a lot of money on your outfit. You’re only gonna wear it once.

2. Make sure your dress isn’t too short. No one wants to see your undies.

3. Don’t over accessorize. Less is more.

4. Don’t stress out. You’re going to look great no matter what you wear!

Tim’s Memorable Moments

BEST PROM ADVICE MY MOM GAVE ME
My mom is not into the awkward talks. She told me to have fun, drive safe and always open the door for my date.

MOST SPECIAL THING I DID FOR MY PROM DATE
I brought her a corsage, a card and a rose.

MOST NERVE–WRACKING MOMENT

I won “Most Loyal Boyfriend” as a gag award. I had to walk across the empty dance floor to accept it while the entire graduating class of 200 was watching
me.

AFTER THE PROM

We skipped the afterparty, went back to my house and changed, then drove up to my lakeside cottage in Havelock, Ontario.

FAVOURITE PART

Sharing the whole experience with my best friends—from getting ready with my buddy, to the prom itself, to the cottage weekend afterwards.

HOW I GOT TO PROM
I wanted to skateboard there but instead I drove my friends and our dates in my parents’ SUV.

WITH MY PROM DATE
I went with my girlfriend, so seeing each other all done up for the first time was awesome.

FUNNIEST PROM MOMENT
Seeing which students won gag award titles like “Most Likely To Marry Rich” and “Most Likely To Never Leave Oshawa” was hilarious.  Also when we watched a slideshow of memories from our five years together – lots of funny and candid photos. How we looked in grade 9 was embarrassing for most of us.

CHEESIEST PROM MOMENT
Every year, the Prom Queen only won because she was also the prom coordinator.

MOST ROMANTIC MOMENT
The last slow dance of the night, when all the couples are making the most of the final moments.  The theme was inspired by the Drew Barrymore movie Ever After, so that helped set the mood.

BEST SONGS
I have to go with the alt.rock tunes – “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “When I Come Around,” “Come Out and Play (Keep ‘Em Separated).”  The DJ also played the hits of the year, 2002, from Britney Spears, Usher and other artists.  “Amazed” by Lone Star was a hugely popular slow-dance song.
