Model Actresses

 by Jackie Middleton

Many of today’s leading ladies were models first who began their Tinseltown careers with little-to-no training. Here’s Vervegirl’s list of models turned actresses who have proven that they are more than just a pretty face!

Cameron Diaz – At 16 years old, her wide, engaging smile and sparkling blue eyes put this model in high demand with advertisers and designers. Signing with Elite Model Management, Cameron won assignments with Calvin Klein, Levi’s and the cover of Seventeen magazine. At 21, Elite suggested that Cameron audition for a film role in Jim Carrey’s “The Mask.” With no acting experience, Cameron nabbed the part &and a new career. Today, Cameron is one of Hollywood’s most popular stars and has been nominated for Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Awards.

Charlize Theron – South African-born Charlize was a winner from an early age. At 16, she won a local modeling contest and set off for jobs in Milan and New York City. With her interest in modeling waning, Charlize turned to ballet school and settled in Los Angeles. A heated argument with a bank teller caught the attention of a talent scout waiting nearby and just like that, Charlize was discovered and a movie star was born! As an adult, Charlize’s winning streak has continued with Golden Globe and Oscar® wins for her role in “Monster.”
Halle Berry – With Emmy, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Oscar® trophies in her possession, many would find it hard to believe that Halle actually began her career as a beauty queen and model. The runner-up to Miss USA 1986, Halle moved on to modeling and acting when her pageant days were over. Halle appeared in several movies and TV shows, eventually landing the lead role in the 1998 multi-award winning TV movie, “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.” Three years later, Halle added to her trophy collection by capturing the Academy Award for “Monster’s Ball”.
While good looks and a model background may have propelled these ladies into the movie industry, hard work and ability have kept them there. Many fans would agree – these actresses are pretty talented!
