“Listen Up” to Vervegirl’s interview wih Hayley Reinhart

Haley Reinhart

I recently got to sit down and interview the amazingly talented Haley Reinhart, 3rd place runner up from American Idol season 10. The sweetest girl with a really old school jazz and soul vibe and personality that is just way beyond her years, is the best way I could describe her.  Follow me in my interview and get to know a different side of Haley outside of American idol….

Vervegirl: What was it like being on Idol? Was it anything like what you expected?

Haley: Definitely, it was everything I expected and more. It was a lot more work, more stress and emotional attachment. You et so emotionally attached to everyone there.

Vervegirl: Top 3, that’s huge! How did you feel about having made it so far in the competition?

Hayley: It was so amazing. I used to watch the show as a kid and I would always say “I could do that” and I actually got to. With the type of music I sing it could’ve gone over most kids heads…, but it didn’t, it worked out.

Vervegirl: What is one piece of advice you were given from the judges that you will never forget?

Haley: It was unanimous. They always said to be yourself. No matter what song your singing, or what genre it is, to always put your own thing on it…Week to week it really helped me to show the kind of artist I am.

Vervegirl: How would you describe your musical style?

Haley: It’s a marriage of so many different genres.  From new wave Motown to rock, and there’s some soulfulness too. Vocally, very jazz and some funkyness.

Vervegirl: Who are some of your influences, both in the music worl and outside?

Haley: My mom is one of the best singers in the world…and my dad too…I’m like a mixutre of both of them. They introduced me to The Beatles. Anyone really in old R&B sould … and singers like Amy Whinehouse.

Vervegirl: Your first album “Listen Up” is releasing so soon, on May 22nd. How long did it take to write and record the album?

Haley: Not that long actually. Everyone thought it took a long time, but I wanted to wait until after the Idol tour, so I could really focus and put all of my time into the album. It only took 3 months… I’m so grateful for smooth it actually went.

Vervgirl: Do you have a favourite song from your upcoming album? If so which one and why?

Haley: Oh my God, I love them all. I’m very attached to all of them, I put my heart and soul into this album. Some of the ones I really love would be “Wonderland” or “Keep coming back”.

Vervegirl: How would you describe your personal style?

Haley: I love funky patterns, cordouroy an different textures. I really love the 50’s pin up girl style and the 60’s and 70’s. So the 50’s pin up girl with a mix of the 60’s and the 70’s, if that makes sense.

Vervegirl: Who is your fashion icon?

Haley: I love classy, sexy pin up girls…I also really love the classic rocker style…someone like Janis Joplin

Vervegirl: What is your one go to item or this Spring/Summer?

Haley: I have so many heels that I interchange all the time. It’s so hard to pick one, I’m such a shopaholic.

Vervegirl: Your favourite shop?

Haley: I love to shop at Free people.
