eXcuse my French – Entry 1

So what do you do when you arrive at the Nice airport on a Tuesday afternoon? You go to the beach and soak up the European sun of course!

Getting a tan here is a must! Unlike the Canadian sun, the French rays give you an even bronze that you are sure to brag about through Facebook pics 😉

As this is my first entry girls, I suppose it is fitting that I introduce myself. I am just like any other girl discovering the French Riviera through a university exchange program. But while I’m here, not only do I plan on enjoying every bit of this southern coast, but also intend to keep y’all posted – share my experiences and odd concepts of the French.

First off, travel light!! I totally learned that the hard way 😛 But, I’m glad there were cute French gentlemen to help me with my bags when I arrived at shores of the Mediterranean sea. For some background info, Nice is a city right by the Mediterranean Sea. It is all beaches – but sand less ones. They’re covered with little rocks all over. Since it’s in the South of France, it is usually really hot here, which is something us Canadian girls never complain about. 😀

The city also borders Italy, so almost all signs are not only in French, but Italian as well. Almost everything, including my university is only a 5 minute walk to the beach, so everyone is there almost every day – before and after classes.

Since I’ve only been here for a week, I’ve learned two things: there is a lot of waiting in France and the food is rich and delicious!!

The wait is because the French are extremely relaxed, which means it would be awesome to work here! Everyone works slowly here, as if there is no justifiable reason to hurry. The French know the art of doing nothing – they simply take their time and you, likewise, have to accept it and grow to appreciate such a lifestyle.

The food however, I wish they would let me bring back! The cheese here is incroyable! I am addicted to the cheese and baguettes here. They are always fresh and extremely cheap. I’m thinking I’ll be coming back to Canada, chubby, tanned and with a suitcase filled with French cheeses 😀

À bientôt Vervegirls!
