The fabulous Lauren Gottlieb

by Kat Wong Too Yen

The gorgeous Lauren Gottlieb, originally part of So You Think You Can Dance Season 3, returns as a non-competing All-Star in the show’s 7th season. The multi-talented Lauren can also be seen acting on the hit TV show, Glee, as a member of the rival glee club, Vocal Adrenaline. Lucky for us, Lauren took time out of her hectic life to talk to Vervegirl about what she’s been up to…

VERVEGIRL: How does dancing as an All-Star in SYTYCD 7 compare to your experience of being a competitor in SYTYCD 3?
LAUREN: It’s totally different! We were so wrapped up with the competition in season 3 that I remember it being a huge blur. Everything was just thrown at you. This season, I know what’s going to happen and I don’t have to worry about being voted off and eliminated.

VG: How do you feel about those who are competing this season?

LG: Oh, you still worry! Everyone on the show is really close, it’s like a family. As an All-Star you get to go out there and just have fun. At the same time, you want to have your partners get through (to the next round). You totally feel protective of your partner every week. And since we get new partners every week, it’s like a breakup! (laughs) But most of the All-Stars come to the results show to support their partners.

VG: Out of the choreographers you’ve worked with so far, who has been the most memorable one?
LG: Well, they ALL are. The choreographers on SYTYCD are all definitely at the top.

VG: How is it performing with the judges there?
LG: You learn to understand that the judges are going to say what they want. You stop taking things so personally. When the judges say something rude or anything, you just learn to ignore it.

VG: At what point in your career did you decide to get into acting? Was it a natural progression after being on SYTYCD?
LG: It really was! In dance, you have to learn to expose yourself and you have to throw yourself into different characters each time. I think that the best dancers make the best actors.

VG: How would you describe your personal sense of fashion?
LG: I guess I’m really into that whole 80’s rocker thing. I don’t know why, but I think I gravitate a little towards a look like Mandy Moore’s.

Can you briefly tell us about your LoGotti dancewear fashion line?

LG: I know what I like to wear in rehearsal and on stage and stuff. During rehearsals on SYTYCD, what you see me wearing is my own style. I have some shirts that I’m about to come out with, and some sweatpants too. It’s stuff that feels good and makes you feel good when you rehearse.

LG: We have a 60-city SYTYCD tour after the season wraps up.  I’m also in Make it or Break it, which is a gymnastics show on ABC Family channel that is coming out in a month.
