You have your outfit picked out, your date lined up and tickets to the hottest club, but, how are you getting home and where will you be sleeping? Some quick tips from Constable Tony Vella, of the Toronto Police, to keep you safe for New Year's Eve.
  1. Kissing a complete stranger may seem romantic in your dreams, but knowing who is buying you drinks (cocktails and mocktails) is important. Make sure you have a clear view of the bartender pouring your drink and the person handing it over to you. The last thing you want is for someone to spike your beverage.
  2. Do not walk in secluded areas or take shortcuts.  Stay in well-lit areas and on the sidewalk. Always carry a cell phone and notify others of where you will be and your estimated time of arrival. That way people will know when to expect you and be wary if you are late.
  3. If you fear someone is following you, do not hesitate to call 911.
  4. Plan ahead. If you are driving, then have a designated driver. If you are taking a cab, you can dial #TAXI (Pound 8294) and get the first available taxi or the cab company you want and avoid busy signals, that's # 8-2-9-4 on your cell. Calling #TAXI will generate a one-time charge of between $1.25 and $1.79 per call, depending on your wireless carrier.
  5. Weather can be erratic. If you insist on wearing a dress and heels, be sure to have comfortable, warm, outer layers to brave the snow and wind. *Vervegirl Tip: Wear leg warmers, they can double as a scarf after the party!
Last, but not least, if you are crashing at a friends place, bring something yummy for breakfast! She'll appreciate it the next morning.
