While Vervegirl saves “the talk” for the parentals (consider us a big sis), some chats are necessary, especially when it comes to the frilliest night of your high school life.
Our go-to guru is Dr. Sari Locker, a Sex Educator since her own teenage years (no lie, by 17 years old), who focuses on making better sexual decisions.
Firstly, Dr. Locker highlights the importance of loving yourself AND your body. Being sexually active will not increase confidence.
Secondly, don't "hook up" with your prom date, dreaming he will become your prince after sex. He might just be a date, and false expectations only lead to disappointment. Sex doesn't make love. Look at the situation realistically (sometimes us gals overlook the obvious).
Thirdly, a clutch big enough for lip gloss, can hold a condom. Or in Dr. Locker’s words "if you’re old enough to have sex, you’re old enough to buy condoms". There's no excuse NOT to use protection, and put your health first. Dr. Locker suggests buying extra-sensitive condoms - same protection, but a thinner material - to curb any concerns that safe sex doesn't feel as good for him. Try another line boys!
Finally, don't feel pressure by presuming the entire student body is going for "extra credit". Not everyone at prom is doing it. Take a cue from this Vervegirl, and let your only concerns be about hair and makeup...oh, and of course, shoes.

And remember, it's not only at Prom where the pressure to just "do it" is intensified. Watch this clip about Spring Break with Sari Locker.|
