1.
The Top Hat

The top hat defined 19th-century sophistication and was assured its place in fashion when Prince Albert wore it back in 1850.
Flash forward to 2008 where top hats have found their way onto the pretty heads of many celebs, including Kate Bosworth, Mischa Barton, Mary-Kate Olsen and Rihanna. Don’t you think it’s time to replace that ratty baseball cap in your closet with a one-of-a-kind topper? Black, red or light grey are solid choices for Fall.

White sheer flower blouse by Alice + Olivia, $275; available at JacFlash, Toronto; jacflash.net. Black bloomers by People’s Market, $125; at various retailers across Canada. Red top hat with feather by Canadian Hat, $39.75. Black patent belt by Ferragamo, $355; at Holt Renfrew.

2. Big Hair

Sleek and chic can get awfully boring after a while. Channel your inner goddess with gorgeous full-body hair. Prime your locks with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner before you blow dry. (A blow-drying tip: lift sections of hair upward, directing hot air toward your scalp to create volume.)

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Full Splendour Shampoo & Luxurious Volume Full Splendour Conditioner, $9.99 each; at all major grocery and drug stores across Canada in August; johnfrieda.com.
