The Toronto School of Circus Arts (we’re not making that up) has a Wednesday night drop-in class at 6 p.m. that caters to first-timers. This is good news, since our hours of circus experience amount to a few days on a tire swing in the summer of 1998.

In the big, warehouse-like gym, expert coaches will try to coax us off the tiny ledges and into the air, swinging backwards and forwards and then (if all goes well) letting go with an artful backflip dismount. Or, er, a gentle fall into the safety net while securely tied to our harness. We’ll see how the night goes…
