Layering it on Thick

Since Britney, Christina and Paris hit the scene, scantily clad has been the hottest fad. From push-up bras to low-rise jeans, skin has been in. But at last, the time has come to get rid of those revealing little numbers and create some mystery. Get the layered look with these tips because this season is all about staying warm and looking hot!

1. Don’t restock your entire wardrobe. The most fabulous thing about this look is drawing pieces from any season and making it work! Hold on to that 3/4-sleeved jacket and add a pair of long gloves. Take those shorts and throw on a pair of tights and legwarmers.
2. Get the key pieces. There are a couple of essentials to achieving this look. As suggested by Karen Richter at H&M, “Leggings are definitely most important, along with tunics, tights and knit turtlenecks.” Grab the basics and
build from there!
3. Mix it up with textures and prints. “Texture on texture can look beautiful, especially with knits,” affirms Amy Lu, Fashion Stylist with Toronto’s Judy Inc. “However, there has to be some thing to ground the look—like similar tones or a monochromatic look to tie the different textures together. Mixing prints can be daunting, but sometimes provide the most fun and creative looks… Try to keep a common thread within the patters to maintain some consistency.”
4. Balance is key. Try volume on top and skinny on the bottom, or vice versa. “Never wear oversized all over,” advises Randy Smith, Fashion Stylist and Creative Director at Judy Inc. “Even if the look is slouchy, it’s not ever about sloppy.”
5. Use your imagination. It doesn’t have to be an agonizing decision (which will only make you late for first period). The layered look is all about the individual and what you’re comfortable wearing. There is really no wrong way to do it.
