A new genre of music is emerging that blends Hip Hop, R&B, Rock and Classic to create a ‘celtic soul’ sound from across Irish seas and into the hearts of North American young women. By Carina Oliveira
The Script is an incredible three-piece band from Dublin. But it isn’t their grassroots album cover or even lead singer Danny O’Donaghue’s rugged good looks that will captivate you, it’s the passion that emanates from their UK platinum hit single We Cry that will grab your attention. Danny’s been quoted as saying, “Irish people have soul. It comes from generations and generations of pain, and generations of understanding emotions to be able to physically get that in a solid sound.”
Danny’s vocals are hypnotic, Mark Sheehan keeps a great rhythm on his guitar, and let’s not forget the magnetic pats on the drum Glen Power hits in their debut song, Break Even, a ballad about a broken heart that appeals to anyone who’s been in love. “There is a whole lifetime in these songs,” says Mark referring to their hardships. They didn’t win Best Irish Band at the World Music Awards for nothin’!
Vervegirls, if you’re in the mood for a little celtic soul then check out The Script’s self titled album (
