ON HER WAY TO THE TOP
Vervegirl was on the set for the making of singer Amanda Morra’s new video, The Music. VG’s own Kim Cooper sat down with this peppy, up- and-coming pop sensation to get the goods on her new self titled album Amanda Morra.
VG: Tell us how you got into the music industry?AM: I’ve been recording songs for a few years and had some songs on MySpace. Then, Anthony Costa, founder of Costa Records, discovered me. We’ve been recording together ever since with different producers and getting the album together. Everything is going great!
VG: So he found you online?AM: Yeah, he found me on MySpace and through my old agent, I met with Anthony and he really liked me and what I had to offer the music industry.
VG: Did you always want to be a singer?AM: Yes, I was always singing and dancing growing up. Singing and dancing come very naturally to me because they’re my strong points.
VG: Where are you originally from?AM: My parents are Italian but I live in Toronto.
VG: Tell us about your new self titled album, Amanda MorraAM: It’s a combination of pop, dance and R&B. It’s a well–rounded collection of songs and there’s something for every generation.
VG:What inspires you?AM: I like to write about everyday life, relationships, and going out and having fun. I’m 20 years old so I write about what I know and the things that are in my life at that moment because they’re real.
VG: What advice do you have for people who want to become singers?AM: Stay true to yourself. Write about things you know and stay true to the things you want to do.
