Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Soren has been singing since she was two years old and her love for it has never faded. Growing up, she listened to artists like Mary. J. Blige, TLC and Lauren Hill, although her soothing voice and music is said to resemble the talented Erykah Badu.
At nine years old, Soren was given a keyboard, a voice instructor and a piece of paper to write down whatever her heart told her to - which is really all you need to become a sensation. Her voice instructor noted Soren’s beautiful lyrics and quickly saw that this student was wise beyond her years. In fact, sometimes she couldn’t tell if a piece was meant to be written as poetry, or poetry heard as a song. “I wanted my music to sound unique… new and pleasantly unusual,” says Soren.
She has succeeded in making wonderful songs and showcasing her powerful voice. Soren was a Miss Glamour Canada Division Winner in 2003 and was selected to be on the Humber College Student CD in 2006. She has also performed in a choir during Belly and Genuwine’s MMVA performance in 2007 and is part of the Heaven Sound Gospel Group. But aside from all of her progress as an artist, this half Trinidadian, half Vincentient is still the same loving songstress/composer she always was and will be.
We can’t wait to see her again as she lures the audience and puts them at ease with her powerful but varied vocals.
