A career in a creative field like marketing can be very rewarding. Read up on what Michelle Blackwell, 26, told us about her exciting occupation and best memories of university.

VG: Where do you work?
MB: I’m a Marketing Assistant at Simon & Schuster Canada.

VG: What do you do?
MB: I develop marketing campaigns for children’s and adult books. I also coordinate several publishing and educational trade shows.

VG: Where and what did you study?
MB: I went to University of Calgary, where I got my Bachelor’s Degree in English. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Medieval Studies from University of Toronto.

VG: What’s your best memory of university?
MB: The feeling of always learning and being challenged to think about the world in different ways.

VG: How did your university experience help you get your current job?
MB: My English degree helped me cultivate a love and appreciation for fiction that has helped me fit in and feel comfortable in the publishing industry, as well as develop great writing skills.

VG: Best thing about your job?
MB: The variety. I love doing different tasks and learning new things all the time and my position in marketing allows me to do that. I also love the people I work with.
