In her book, author Hannah Seligson offers sage advice for the working girl. By Katie Boland My mother once told me that change is the only constant in life. With this piece of wisdom in mind, it’s safe to say everyone experiences their share of difficult and confusing periods in their lifetimes. This fact is undoubtedly true for countless young women entering the workforce for the first time.
Fortunately there are sources out there to ease the transition. With her new book, New Girl on the Job (Kensington Publishing Corporation), Hannah Seligson has provided a consistently captivating and easy to read career guide for young women. In the book, Seligson gives a lot of very thorough and thoughtful advice to help young women navigate the scary and exciting new terrain of the working world. From how to find a job you don’t want to quit, to dealing with a difficult boss, to seeking out a constructive mentor, the book is a comprehensive encyclopedia of career information.
The book also includes interviews with many famous businesswomen, including Bobbi Brown (CEO of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics) and Soledad O’Brien (host of TV’s CNN Special Investigations Unit), two career women who clearly know how to get to the top.
The book touches upon an interesting concept: modern feminism. Although most of the world is a much different and better place for professional females than it was for our mothers and grandmothers, perfect equality still doesn’t exist universally. This book offers specific advice to young women, taking account of their specific situation and concerns about equal pay and advancement in the professional realm.
I’d recommend New Girl on the Job to any young woman entering the working world, or who just needs a little guidance through any current career situations. Seligson’s book contains a great deal of insight and advice that can only help make them smarter and more professional.
