Superfoods to the Rescue!

Whoever said beauty is skin deep was definitely on to something. Not only is eating right good for our bodies, but certain foods can also enhance inner beauty. Expert nutritionist Yanni Papanikolaou gives you the scoop on superfoods. by Toni-Marie Ippolito
Almonds & Walnuts
According to Papanikolaou, the antioxidants and vitamin E present in almond skin work together to make skin healthier. Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids, compounds that reduce inflammation and protect against damage from ultraviolet rays.

Fatty fish
Fatty coldwater fish (salmon, tuna and mackerel) are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which nourish the skin and help prevent inflammation, says Papanikolaou. They also protect against damage from ultraviolet rays.

Tomatoes & Strawberries
These two delicious fruit are excellent sources of lycopene, an antioxidant that reduces the risk of some cancers. Lycopene also protects against sunburn and damage from ultraviolet rays.

AÇAI fruit
This fruit is rich in vitamins A, C, D and E, lecithin, potassium and dietary fibre, which all play a role in boosting skin health by providing moisturizing and nourishing effects.

Red Meat & Protein
Excellent for luscious locks, many nutritionists recommend eating red meat twice a week for optimal hair health. Beef contains B vitamins, iron, zinc and other important minerals for healthy hair. If you’re a vegetarian, rather than the more restrictive vegan, eggs provide ample and necessary protein.
