Glam To Go

Big waves, up-do’s and hair accessories are hot on the party circuit!

Glam To Go

Celebrity hair stylist Howard Barr, whose star-studded list of clients include Charlize Theron, Drew Barrymore and the Olsen twins, shares a few of his holiday hair tips.

‘Up’ the ante
Messy chignons and imperfect up-do’s look stunning for any holiday party!
Chic Chignon: Gather hair into a low, loose ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic band. Twist hair several times as a long strand with frayed-out ends. Curl the twisted strand into a bun and use hairpins to secure at the nape of neck.
Party Ponytail: The always practical ponytail is back with retro glamour. It’s best to dry hair straight with a brush, part it slightly off-center, and then fasten the ponytail lightly so that it sits slightly below the middle of the back of your head.

High on Glamour
Full hair, luscious waves and bountiful curls are big this holiday season.
Diffuse: Set your hair dryer to low fan/high heat. For volume, diffuse hair leaning forward in a chair with your head down. Keeping the diffuser still, diffuse each section starting at the crown.
Back comb: Comb hair towards the scalp, instead of away from it, to roughen the cuticle and create ultra-volume. Tease two-inch sections
from ends to mid-length or roots in one motion.

Accessorize

Wearing hair accessories is an easy way to glam up any outfit.
Headbands: Classic pearls, rhinestones, gold, silver or suede headbands all add an element of glamour to any ’do. Add some height at the crown, so you can wear it 60s style.
Hair Jewelry: Whether it’s a cocktail dress or jeans, feminine barrettes, combs and sculptured hats add star quality!
