Courage My Love

Courage My Love recently became the youngest band ever to make it into the finals at the Indie Week Music Festival not once, but two years in a row.

Courage My LoveCourage My Love are Mercedes, honing her skills on the guitar and writing as often as she can with her twin sister Phoenix, whose power and taste behind her Pearl drum kit matches Mercedes’ chord crunching guitar attacks, the intensity of which belies their age and diminutive stature. David, their bassist and musical conscience, the man who shares their energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to music, is as kinetic as the sisters, a brother in arms whose stage presence matches their own. How the hell did they get this good?

They didn’t pick up Guitar Hero or Rock Band plastic. They picked up guitar, bass, and drums to rock out for real. They are never still, never complacent. They rock, and they rock hard. And even though the music is forceful and not timid when it comes to volume, their voices cut through, as melodic and harmonious on the top as the music is solid and driving on the bottom.

These three musicians aren’t looking for a rapid rise to stardom and an early payoff. They are not looking for instant fame or success through playing the game, cashing in on their good looks, or being molded into a flavour of the month by a cadre of well-intentioned star makers. Fame and success, when they come, will be because of hard work, constant playing and rehearsing, and writing songs that have substance and value.

The band cut their teeth and built their audience with fiery live performances. They have torn up the stages of a number of key festivals like the Vans Warped Tour, NXNE and Canadian Music Week while playing alongside the likes of Paramore, Tokyo Police Club and A Day To Remember, bands whose albums fill the shelves of their record collections but whom they can now call peers. Courage My Love recently became the youngest band ever to make it into the finals at the Indie Week Music Festival not once, but two years in a row.

Courage My Love does not asked to be noticed, they demand it! Whether it’s on stage winning a Battle of The Bands contest (how they were discovered), electrifying crowds on the Vans Warped tour, creating their own label (Homeskool Prom), recording a mostly weekly podcast (Homeskool Detention) or making fans out of the likes of director Kevin Smith, CML does it all on their own terms. The release of their debut EP, For Now, gives credence to that ethos while their video for “Bridges” and “Barricade” capture all of the fun and energy fans have come to expect from the band.

Courage My Love - For Now

Courage My Love want to play for the world, one stage, one club at a time. Now is their time, and now is the time for you to see them and hear them, and watch them become what they have always wanted to be. In the finest tradition of all the great rock bands past and present.

This is real music, real passion. Real rock. Courage My Love. More rock than we deserve.
