Discover Diary of a Trendaholic!

Discover Diary of a Trendaholic!

When beauty maven Erica Davis isn’t educating her Diary of a Trendaholic audience about the latest runway trends or products on the market, she’s coveting the closets of Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner and T. Swift.

We chatted with Erica, runner up winner of our So…? Fragrance #SoBloggerSearch to learn more.

On how she got her start

I’ve always been interested in the art of makeup. In high school I began watching videos and playing around with colour in an attempt to enhance my skills. Eventually I became good at it. I realized many women share a common interest: we want to look our best and feel beautiful! I decided to use my love of writing to create a website that reviews the hottest beauty products on the market and make it easy for women to get the lowdown on formulas, quality and application. The response has been very encouraging. I love being able to help and inspire.

On the summer trends she loves

After wearing dark shades all winter, I embrace summer with a splash of bright colour! I’m loving vibrant floral prints, long flowing maxi dresses and sexy backless tops. For makeup I like minimal eye shadow, daring winged liner and a bold lipstick – red is always classy.

On the celeb wardrobe she covets

I am impressed by Kendall Jenner’s style. She is young, fresh, high fashion and her outfits are so trendy! I love Taylor Swift’s cute summer dresses and the array of glamorous gowns in Sphia Vergara’s closet. Blake lively, Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez always look gorgeously chic.

On the future of Diary of a Trendaholic

In the future I see myself writing for a magazine, expanding my social network and teaming up with more beauty brands. I would love to collaborate with an established organization to create my own line of makeup or products, meet new people, attend more fabulous events and totally immerse myself in the beauty industry as a trendsetter and sought-after beauty editor. I have big goals but I’m getting there one step at a time.

Spoken Word, Spoken Truth: Suli Breaks speaks to our Generation

Spoken Word, Spoken Truth: Suli Breaks speaks to our Generation

I Will Not Let An Exam Result Decide My Fate

In a world where the word artist now translate into ‘celebrity’ and ‘rich’, to find true inspiration is hard. Suli Breaks is one of the few artists left who inspire our generation and provides us with a couple thing that our teachers forget to give us at school: a reality check and hope. Suli is a spoken word artist from the UK, who as created spoken word videos on education which have gone viral and gotten millions of views on Youtube.

I know it’s summer right now, but I think everyone needs to know about this spoken word artist before heading back to class in September.

Suli’s first video on mainstream education Why I Hate School But Love Education reflects on our society’s emphasis of getting a ‘good’ education. He makes you wonder: why spend so much money on ‘good’ education? Why does education equal stress? Why do we waste our lives getting qualified to get ‘better’ jobs if we’ll never get the jobs of our dreams? Or better yet, why waste precious years getting qualified and wasting money to not get a job at all? (Because in this day and age with this economy, you’re lucky if you find one).

What I love about Suli is that he makes you question, he makes you go against everything that you have been taught and everything that you believe personally and think. After I watched the video, I started making pros and cons with his spoken word to try and comprehend what I just watched/heard. I found myself asking: “What am I getting an education for?” During the video he made a good point, that “some of you even have the nerve to say ‘I don’t do it for the money'”. Let me just say that I had a scary revelation with myself and realized that is why I’m getting educated for. Money is the goal. And I hate it.

This is what Suli does to you- he makes you come to recognize the ugliness of society in yourself; he makes you realize what society has done to make you, you. He makes you re-evaluate your values and your goals.

After watching the video, I watched I Will Not Let An Exam Result Decide My Fate (link for this video is above the picture). I really wished I found this video while studying for exams and feeling dreadfully hopeless.

The video’s message is about relaxing and not taking exams so seriously (like I said before, I REALLY wish I found this video during exams). Suli reminds us that exams will never decide who you are is a person. Sure, the results will affect where you go to school and may limit your options, but it is true hardwork and determination that will make or break us in life. Like in the previous video, Suli agrees that education is important, but goes on in expanding his explanation (in this video) why education isn’t the only way to success, why exam results do not limit our ability to grow.

It makes me sad that I didn’t learn about this video during exams, but it makes me happy I found it before starting Grade 11. I will now have a constant reminder as to keep calm when my work load starts to pile on and to keep my goals in my view.

In the end, the message is clear: educate yourself with the subjects that excite you, not with things that will bring you ‘security’ in the future. It may seem crazy and impractical to take Suli’s spoken word or my review on his video’s message into consideration, but think about this: there is no such thing as security in a world that is ever changing. What makes man crazy is the idea to think that security is achievable.

Educate yourself, understand your goals,  and overall, go for the things that are important to you and inspire you.

Clinique A Different Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins

Clinique A Different Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins

Last month, Clinique introduced an innovative new line of nail polish, A Different Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins, which is currently creating a lot of buzz in the beauty world. However, if your initial reaction is similar to mine, you’re probably wondering what effect nail polish could possibly have on the skin since, as we all know, it goes on our nails.

Turns out regular nail polish can be a significant allergen for people with sensitive eyes and skin. It only makes sense that Clinique, a company known for its sensitive skin products, would be behind this dermatologist- and ophthalmologist-approved nail polish formula.

Prepping for a Beach Vacation: Schick Intuition

Prepping for a Beach Vacation: Schick Intuition

It’s the beginning of May, which means the countdown to my Hawaii vacation has now begun! As with any holiday, I’ve been getting into prep mode by hunting down suitable vacation clothes (in this case, bathing suits and maxi dresses) and deciding what toiletries I’ll need to bring (SPF is at the top of my list). Even though I’m not leaving for another two weeks, these activities are all part of my “I’m so excited I just can’t wait” process which I’m sure some of you can also relate to.

Since I’m planning on spending a lot of time on the beach, one of the items that will definitely be accompanying me on my trip is my Schick Intuition Razor.

Be sure to check out my full post here: http://www.alison-elle.com/2013/05/prepping-for-beach-vacation-schick.html

Say “Au Revoir” To Razor Burn!

Say “Au Revoir” To Razor Burn!

I’ve been shaving since I was in Grade 3.  With that being said, my hair grows back ridiculously fast and it is also a huge pain in the butt!  As an Italian, yes, I blame it on my heritage, I have an ample amount of hair as well.

Fun fact: Shaving isn’t what makes your hair grow in coarser, your body is!  Each individual is different based on their gender, age, or race, thus hair growth is dependant on your hormones and genetic make up.

So imagine, thick and plentiful hair nearly ALL OVER my body!

I have tried so many different types of razors ranging from men’s to women’s and nothing has ever given me the moisture that my skin needs and nothing has ever prevented my skin from having razor burn.  I’ve tried using conditioner, extra thick shaving creams, and even soaking my skin to open my pores but nothing has worked.  That is, until I tried the Schick® Intuition® Pure Nourishment™ razor.

The Socializer Spotlight Exfoliator and Porefection

The Socializer Spotlight Exfoliator and Porefection

With temperatures warming up, I’ve been phasing out my usage of heavy moisturizers and thick serums in favour of some lighter formulas. Cue: The Socializer, a fun line of face & body care with a playful message that’s matched in all of its packaging. Being a sucker for aesthetics, I was particularly pleased with the two products I received from the kind folks at Elizabeth Grant and Vervegirl.

Happy Easter!

There’s something about Easter that gets everyone in the mood for Spring. I suppose it’s because the holiday is placed around a time of renewal and rejuvenation.

For us, Spring’s a time for cleaning, organizing and redecorating. (It’s also a time for cramming for final exams!) As Vreps, Shaji and I were sent products by Bioré for review.

Skin Care for Oily Skin ft. Nivea

Skin Care for Oily Skin ft. Nivea

Hello lovelies,

I recently got some new products to review from Vervegirl and Nivea and in this post I am going to share my experience with this new product line.

To start my skin type for the most part of my life has been normal. I don’t get random break outs and my skin is pretty smooth. Recently however I have started to get a little oily on my chin and under my nose. When I say oily I don’t mean that my makeup is slipping off or you can see the oil on my skin, it is very minimal that only I being me notice it.
