Breakaway wasn’t like any hockey movie I’d seen before. It was serious, yet funny with a bit of romance. The characters journies had you rooting for them until the finals! I was able to see this movie at a special SCENE screening at paramount threatre before it came out. And I’m so happy I got to.

The story follows a Indian-Canadian hockey player, Rajveer, with big dreams of playing hockey as a career. His very religous family doesn’t support his dreams but Rajveer and his team the Speedy Singhs won’t let anyone stop them. With the help of their new coach, Dan Winters and his sister, Melissa Winters, the Speedy Singhs keep pushing to make it to the top while facing many obstacles.

The comic relief of Russel Peters made the movie that much better. It was definitely interesting seeing him place one of the villians in this film. But you still can’t help but love his character, after all it is Russel Peters.

If you’re from Toronto you’ll love seeing your city in the movie since the whole film was shot there! So go check out the movie if you’re a hockey fan and even if you’re not! There’s something in this movie everyone can enjoy.
